With this original handcrafted tree ornament by Caudled Milk, the holiday season has officially begun.
My first solo Polaroid show opened last week at Easy Street Records in West Seattle! The exhibition, titled “Spit It Out!”, is a collection of Seattle rock Polaroids taken over the past decade, which I enlarged through a second photographic process and printed using a high-end inkjet printer. All prints are for sale, and I’ll be adding pieces to the show over the next month.
If you’re in the Seattle area during the next couple of months, stop by and take a look — and grab some brunch and hard-to-find music while your at it!
Earlier this year, my window display at Easy Street Records took first place in a contest to promote The Books’ 2010 album, The Way Out. The prize package included all kinds of cool things: vinyl and cd copies of the album, a huge store credit from the distributor, tickets to their December show in Seattle. But the crown jewel of the prize package was this handmade mixtape from The Books, assembled for me from their own personal music libraries.
The rewards I get from making window displays at a record store are many, but its moments like this that remind me that doing good work is about creating connections, not getting a paycheck.
